Frothing at the mouth: Police tried to get Mass. man help. Now he's suspect in stabbing spree (2024)

Before 26-year-old Jared Ravizza was a suspect in a stabbing spree in Massachusetts and a homicide in Connecticut, police tried to help him by bringing him to a hospital for a mental health assessment and a potential involuntary hospitalization.

Now his mental health is in question again after a mental health evaluation was ordered in Plymouth District Court on Tuesday.

He has been accused of a Saturday stabbing at a Plymouth McDonald’s which injured two employees and a stabbing at a Braintree movie theater in which four girls were stabbed, according to police.

Ravizza’s next court date in Plymouth District court is June 17, the clerk’s office said.

In mid-April, Ravizza was accused of assaulting and beating his father, Jason Ravizza, and throwing furniture into the wall, putting holes into the dry wall of 399 State Road in Martha’s Vineyard, according to court records.

According to a police report, his father said he had a “mental break and attacked him.”

The police report said Ravizza appeared to be “clearly intoxicated” and was frothing at the mouth.

Ravizza reportedly spoke to the officers about “non sensical things such as the deep state” and that his family helped start the country with John Adams, according to the report.

Ravizza said his father didn’t love him and wanted him dead and also screamed that he “hopes his father dies,” the report states.

While police took Ravizza to Martha’s Vineyard Hospital for a mental health evaluation, he was found to not meet their standards for involuntary hospitalization.

Jared Ravizza faced charges in Edgarton District Court of assault and battery on a family or household member and two counts of vandalizing property.

He was placed in a diversion program but was removed and placed on a trial docket as of Tuesday morning, according to the Edgartown District Court Clerk’s office.

What is he being accused of?

At around 3:35 p.m. on Saturday, a little more than two hours before the stabbing in Braintree, troopers responded to a home on Merriwold Lane in Deep River, Connecticut for a report of a disturbance, Connecticut State Police said.

Individuals reported that they recognized the suspect as someone who was staying at a Maritone Lane address.

The trooper found an man, later identified as 70-year-old Bruce Feldman of Deep River with visible injuries outdoors at 15 Maritone Lane. He was pronounced dead on scene.

Connecticut State police said witnesses described an individual that fit the appearance of Ravizza.

Massachusetts State Police later reported Ravizza’s vehicle was in the Commonwealth. He was taken into custody in Sandwich, Mass. at around 7:30 p.m.

Criminal charges against Ravizza are pending, Connecticut State police said.

Ravizza is facing multiple charges in connection with the stabbings in Massachusetts, including assault with intent to murder, indecent exposure and two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Around 6 p.m., a man, now identified as Ravizza, is accused of going into AMC’s Braintree location and went past the ticket counter without paying, Braintree police said. He then entered one of the theaters and suddenly stabbed four girls without saying anything or issuing a warning, officials said. The suspect fled in a vehicle, and the girls were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Quincy District Court Clerk’s office said Ravizza is facing four counts of assault with intent to murder and four counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

“This crime appears to be completely senseless and random, perpetrated against entirely defenseless, innocent children,” Braintree police said.

Then shortly before 7 p.m., the Plymouth County District Attorney’s office said Ravizza stabbed two McDonald’s employees, a 21-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man, at the McDonald’s at the Route 3 Park and Ride in Plymouth. The man and woman were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said previously.

“The female victim’s stab wound was approximately five centimeters deep, and she also had wounds to her in her left bicep and left underarm,” a prosecutor said in court on Tuesday, WCVB reported.

Video footage of the incident shows Ravizza stabbing the male employee through the drive-thru window before parking the vehicle he drove, going inside the restaurant to stab the female employee, and then fleeing in the vehicle.

Ravizza was accused of publicly urinating in the drive-thru, according to the police report.

As of Sunday afternoon, Ravizza was in police custody and being treated for non-life-threatening injuries at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, the district attorney’s office said.

McDonald’s issued a statement on the Plymouth stabbing to MassLive Monday night.

“We are shocked and devastated by this senseless act of violence. The safety of our crew and customers is always our top priority. We are grateful to law enforcement for their quick response in protecting our Cape Cod communities and will continue to assist them in their investigation,” the restaurant chain said.
