The 147th running of the Grade One Kentucky Derby takes center-stage at Churchill Downs, as 20 horses attempt to etch their name into sporting folklore.
Raced on dirt over a distance of one mile and two furlongs, the 'Derby' is the first leg of the U.S. Triple Crown which also features the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes. An elite list of 13 horses have won all three races, latterly Justify in 2018.
Dubbed "The Run for the Roses," a result of the blanket of roses draped over the winner, the contest is open to three-year-old colts and fillies and boasts a prize fund of $3 million.

Essential Quality has been so good that it is tough to pick against him. He's also a good looking grey horse.
That being said, I never like to bet on the favorite. My bet is on Rock Your World. Longshot- Sainthood. If Known Agenda doesn't get pinched in on the rail I think he may also be there in the end.

A lot of negative press and juju on the horse, the Sheik that owns him has basically tucked away a daughter against her will because she wanted to leave Dubai without his permission.
Racing Commission Asked to Ban Kentucky Derby Favorite, Essential Quality
Essential Quality, owned by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, might not make it out of the gate at Saturday's Kentucky Derby after renewed allegations that the ruler of Dubai, the horse's owner, abducted his own daughter.

Holy smokes. What a story!
I can't imagine that the good old boys in Kentucky are going to step into that mess and keep the favorite out of the race.

I like Midnight Bourbon. And I'll take the horse to Show, too.

Fantastic prelim turf race that ended in a dead heat. I don't know that I have ever seen one of those.

Arrogate. He's another one who hasn't posted in awhile. I enjoyed reading about his experiences in the equine business.

That's right. As with others, hope he's ok.

So old Bob Bafftert goes on Fox News yesterday and blames the positive test result and Churchill Downs' position on the "cancel culture." Today, he admits he rubbed anti-inflammatory cream in his horse's @$$ last week that contained the banned substance. Sounds like old Bob is what he rubbed the cream on. What a freaking goof!

That excuse sure sounds familiar to me? I want to say a year or two ago similar issue where a "cream" being rubbed on horse caused positive steroid test. Sure opens possibilities up, soon everyone will be rubbing the cream on their horse.
